After watching Gundam SEED, OO, or even Unicorn, the last thing you expect a Gundam to do is walking. Like Holy shit, how long has it been since we saw a Gundam walking across the colony, slowly, normally, like seriously WALKING.

*ahem*

Anyway, to get to the point.

During the course of his walk, character developments seem to grow around him. Captain Jamil Ne- Grodak Ainoa and Cagelli’s fathe- Bruzar is introduced. But who cares about those old geezers, aside from the fact that Grodak just jumped slow-motion-ly over a car.

The real deal here is Tifa, yes I meant Yurin.

For the record I’ll say that I’m Tiffa’s fanboy. Seeing a character that gives her vibe gets a thumbs-up from me.

Then the White Ba-, no the Archan-, arrgg, the Diva finally launches. The last thing to mention is the AGE System, which as said in the title is a 3D Printer. From what I understand, the thing could print out weapons by inputing datas from any enemy you fought. Basically, it might print out a Big Zam, or maybe a Colony Laser if the plot calls for it.

Alright, on to the review:

Story:

First of all, the OP is awesome.

The episode starts off with a flashback similar to SEED Destiny, with Flit losing his parents in an incident. Except, kinda cheesier. The important part is the AGE Device passed down by his parents, which we have seen that not too long ago in Unicorn.

To the actual present, nostalgia hits you when you see Flit in his room looking at plans with the Haro flying around. Also Emily to call him out.

Emily is friggin’ Fraw Bow, nuff’ said.

The differences in this case is Flit actually build his own Gundam. Something that was never seen in the Gundam franchise. It’s debatable how characters in Gundam actually learn how to pilot, but here it’s pretty obvious. Everything seems to pass by quickly and the UE(Unknown Enemy) attacks. The UE’s appearance, in some way, follows old horror movies style with the main hero the only one who know the treat and hopeless trying to warn anybody. Maybe I’m digging too deep but it never hurt to reference some classics.

Everything else is pretty obvious, Flit starts up the AGE-1 and owns the UE, Amuro-style. It’s funny how the military just lets him go, but oh well, there are much worse cases in the past. Flit’s VA was awesome, hot-blooded yet immature.

Mobile Suits:

The MSes also kinda follows the original format. Genoace is the crappy military MS that doesn’t do shit. It’s pretty clear how weak it is with the design. With the blocky-feeling and the lame animation.

The UEs, I believe there are 2-3 difference types of them as far. The other one seems to be purple-ish. The unit itself looks Eva-looking to me, which is cool.

The AGE-1 does look good in action, but the animation is still lacking. The proportions is weird and the unit itself didn’t have any appealing factor.

In anime, especially Mecha, characters that are most loved(aka. less criticized) are the Hot-blooded ones. It is understandable that people have different taste in characteristic or personality, and the fact is nothing will please everyone. Therefore characters whom is more expressive than other will be the main target of frame wars. While the Hot-blooded dudes which has relatively no personality are the one people will care less about. It’s normal, really.

But, there is quite a few categories within the word  “hot-blood”. From “retarded” all the way till “awesome”. Confused? Let me put it this way: Retarded to Awesome = Gai Daigoji to Kamina, Shinn Asuka to Simon. Wilful Shonen heroes has the  retarded determination to be “The Best”, the ones who can achieve that without being Retarded are considered “Manly”  Get it? Well let’s move on.

Nekki Basara are considered by Our Manly Tears as MANLY

Why? I must first mention that Macross Seven is my favorite in the franchise. The reason is – I don’t know why. Fire Bomber is just amazing.

Unlike Sheryl Nome, the show starts off with Basara being only a random singer, and his attempt to communicate with the Aliens. His singing doesn’t work, but he never stops and continues to sing for them. Without caring about the military, nor what everyone thinks and only trust in his singing.

What differ him from other retarded hero is that, he actually achieve what he does from the start, with the way he wanted to from the start. Recklessly flying in the mist of the battlefield and always singing.

Basara wanted to move the mountain, and the galaxy. Which he did, by making Galaxy-destroyer/eating/sucker Gepelnitch listen to his song. And sang along with him.

Instead of changing himself and be accepted like other heroes, he change other and get respected.

Stage 10 – Hero Raideen

Raideen’s debut, together with the villians. Again, they all die here. We’re also given 2 Blugars to play with. Raideen’s final attack is God Bird for some reasons.

Amuro mention that Raideen fought in the DC war too, even though we didn’t see or even heard of it in SRW2. Other thing is Four got captured. It seems they just wanted to have another Kamile vs Four, lame story writing but whatever.

Stage 11 – The Rumored Haran Banjo

While Daiturn 3 debuts here, we didn’t see any of the villains. Too bad then.

The enemy comes from left and right. Yes, we’re in the middle. Daitarn 3′s Spirit is the sun attack post, so they wouldn’t need to draw another one of the attack. Clever.

Thanks to the kindness of Bandai/Sunrise, we citizens of Southern Asia can watch various Gundam series for free including AGE, G, and more. They also streamed the SEED HD Remastered there. So we can watch the HD series in 360p…Cool stuff.

A little background for ya, I watched SEED back in the day on a DVD. The reason being that I haven’t got into Bit Torrents an- actually nevermind.

I do notice the reused animation here and there, but never really got pissed off by it like certain people. I guess SEED does appeals mostly to Asians…for some odd reasons. The Aegis is still one of my favorite Gundam to this day, and the MS designs are pretty awesome overall. Like it or not, you have to admit SEED brought Gundam back from the Black History(ironic huh?) and widen the fan-base range to younger ones.

Now, for the actual Remastered:

Of course, this version on Youtube aren’t “HD”, therefore I can’t really comment on the quality. It has also been awhile since I finished SEED, but I do notice some changes. They changed the OP a bit and reanimated bits and pieces here and there.

One thing to note is Miguel’s custom orange GINN in it. Astray cameo, anyone?

Closing Thoughts

I wasn’t exactly watching the whole episode, but I believe they didn’t change anything major. Just to clarify, I don’t hate SEED. I enjoyed it to a certain degree back in the day. Not as much as the Japanese, but still. I might buy one or two of the Blu-rays just for collection sake, since I can’t afford them all.

This stage marks the first SRW dialouge that isn’t about mission briefing. Some of our pilots relaxs at the beach, Bernie makes an apperance and flirt with our girls, etc.

Stage 8 – Combattler V

Yes, Combattler V debut stage.  This stage also marks the first SRW storyline that doesn’t involve DC or Gundam. Still, it was kinda weird. Garuda does appear, but then die. Yeah, just die, right there. I guess the writers aren’t skilled enough to run both the Original plot and an anime plot

The combining demo is pretty cool, nothing much else to note.

My advice is, don’t bother with the Getter Lab stage, it’s a waster of turn. If you’re not serious about record, wanted a complete run, and believes in your skills, then go ahead.

By the way, doesn’t this video look much clearer?

First battle agaisnt the (in)famous Inspector. There is also the Black Three Sta-…Oh wait it’s an AI. DC is of course, also around. With several named Gundam villians. Emma is can be convinced with Amuro.

Kamile here has the same BGM as Amuro, just like the old days.

Stage 5 – Gundam Theft

Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory debut.

Kou, as we all know…he sucked. He has around 30% of hit rate while Gato has 90% on him. I manage to take down Gato with an acceled White Base, with Getter inside. Worth it only for the EXP.

Stage 6 – Gato’s Raid
Nothing interesting here. I manage to kill all the enemies before the reinforcements arrive. Henken called up and gave us Argama, Nemo, and a Alex with Chris as the pilot. Don’t worry, she sucks too.

The prolouge begins, with the Zabi family resurrecting DC. Yeah the Zabi family from Gundam. Which means this is probably the first time the writer actually use an anime plot. With a little detail on how our heroes goes back into their craps after the DC War. The stage itself is pretty short, not much to note on.

Stage 2 – Knight of the Rose

I went with the B route. We get to fight a group of grunt led by Mashmyre. Fortunately they’re all pretty weak, take them down and end the stage.

Stage 3 – G-3

Okay, this is painful. There are numerous named enemy, which should be taken down with Luck seshin if possible. Also be sure to convince Emma with Amuro.

I also manage to take down the Dogos Gear, which gain me a good amount of money and exp.
